このたびBambinart Galleryでは、三枝愛（みえだあい）個展「これは気球紙です／こんにゃくは食べます」を開催いたします。本展では、こんにゃく引きを施した和紙にサイアノタイプで制作した作品を発表します。美濃の和紙は強度もあり、障子紙として漉かれていたため紫外線によって白味が増すという特徴があります。
「私は美濃で「これは気球紙です」と大きく油性ペンで書かれた鮮やかな水色の、一部が欠けている 古い和紙に出会った。第二次世界大戦末期に制作された紙であるらしい。だとすれば、それは日本軍によって爆弾を積んだ気球になったかもしれない。偏西風に乗ってアメリカに到達した風船爆弾は、 一説では300個におよぶという。 気球紙を生産していた当時の美濃を振り返る新聞には、気球紙に塗布するためのこんにゃく粉を空腹のあまり盗んだ人がいたと記されている。盗んだ粉を使ったこんにゃくは 50cmx50cm の型枠でつくられたそうだ。それと同じ大きさの枠で漉かれた紙で私は風船を折り、日光写真で空をうつす。」(三枝愛)

Bambinart Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Ai Mieda, “This is a material used in “Fu-Go”. / I eat konnyaku, which is one of the materials.” In this exhibition, she will present works created using cyanotype on konjac-pulped Japanese paper. Mino’s washi is strong and has the characteristic of becoming whiter under ultraviolet light because it was traditionally made for shoji paper.
“In Mino, I came across an old piece of washi paper, bright light blue and partially missing, with the words “This is ballon paper”（This is a material used in “Fu-Go”.） written in large, oil-based pen. It seems to be a paper produced at the end of World War II. If so, it might have been turned into a balloon loaded with bombs by the Japanese. According to one theory, as many as 300 balloon bombs reached the U.S. on the prevailing westerly winds. A newspaper article looking back on Mino at the time when balloon paper was being produced states that some people were so hungry that they stole konjac flour to apply to the balloon paper. The konjac made from the stolen powder was said to have been made in a 50cm x 50cm mold. I folded balloons from paper made from the same size frame and used a sunlight photo to capture the sky.” (Ai Mieda)
After about a year and a half since the last solo exhibition by Ai Mieda, “The story of the Abelmoschus manihot (L.) field.” (November 2023), we are pleased to unveil new works by the artist.
