Bambinart Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by Sakura Fukushima “From Yesterday” starting on January 15 until February 6.

Sakura Fukushima (b. 1987, Kumamoto) received BA in painting from Musashino Art University in 2010 and is currently part of MA Painting Course at the same univeristy.

Fukushima’s artworks take up plain sights around us with a touch of melancholy. They suggest scenes from our childhood, a period lost in the memories of our past. Since 2009, Fukushima began incorporating embroidery in her works, giving solidity to her figures and embedding them on to the canvas.

“I want to remember important things. I want to own things I like.
So I preserve them as images by stitching them on to the acrylic world created on the canvas.
These mental images pass through me and come out fixed and completed as works of art.”

This exhibition will be composed of new works following the group show “Emerging Artists 2010” (March, 2010) held at Bambinart Gallery.
